Honest comparison
Daytactic vs Granola
Granola keeps bots out of your meetings and merges your own notes with the transcript. Daytactic keeps the audio off the internet entirely — and turns the meeting into tasks, contacts, and follow-ups.

Where Granola wins
- The note-merging idea is genuinely better than a raw transcript: you jot fragments during the call, and Granola turns them into coherent notes shaped by what you thought mattered.
- There's a real free tier. Daytactic's free plan records 3 meetings a month with local transcripts, but AI summaries and action items need the Pro license.
- Windows support, and collaboration features — shared folders, org-wide admin controls — that a single-user Mac app doesn't attempt.
- Granola's privacy policy is unusually specific and honest about its subprocessors, which is more than most of this category manages.
- Meeting summaries are included in the price; Daytactic asks you to bring your own API key for that step.
Where Daytactic wins
- Audio never leaves your Mac. Granola is bot-free, but not on-device — the recording is streamed to Deepgram or AssemblyAI before being deleted, which is the distinction that matters if your objection is data residency rather than bot awkwardness.
- $39 once versus $14 per user per month — Granola costs more than the entire price of Daytactic every four months.
- Works with no internet connection at all; Granola's transcription needs the network.
- Meeting action items become real tasks in the same app as your projects, CRM, and goals, rather than notes that integrate outward into other tools.
- Nothing to opt out of: there's no model-training setting because no data reaches us in the first place.
- The dossier briefs you before a call from CRM and task data, not just conversation history: the deals open against that company, the commitments outstanding on both sides, ranked by relevance and tickable in place. Granola also briefs you before a call, but from your past notes, and it generates that in its cloud rather than on your Mac.
vs Granola
Should you actually switch?
Isn't Granola already private? It doesn't use a bot.
Bot-free and on-device are different things. Granola captures audio locally instead of joining your call as a participant, then streams that audio to third-party transcription services (Deepgram, AssemblyAI) and stores transcripts in its cloud. It deletes the recording afterward and doesn't let those providers train on your data — genuinely better than most. But the audio does leave your Mac. With Daytactic it doesn't.
Does Daytactic merge my notes like Granola does?
No. That's Granola's signature feature and it does it better. Daytactic records, transcribes locally, and extracts action items — but it doesn't blend your live notes into the transcript the way Granola does.
Which is more accurate?
Cloud transcription services still hold a small edge on hard audio — heavy accents, crosstalk, poor microphones. Local Whisper on Apple Silicon is close enough that most people don't notice on normal meeting audio, but we're not going to claim it wins.
Can I use both?
Yes, though they'll both try to capture the same meeting. If you're evaluating, run them on separate calls rather than the same one.
Bot-free is good. Never leaving your Mac is better.
